REHAB SUPPORT WORKER
A Rehab Support Worker (RSW) for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is a professional who helps individuals with an ABI implement their rehabilitation goals through direct support, life skills training, and assistance with daily living.
They work under the guidance of regulated health professionals to help clients regain independence and improve their quality of life by providing assistance with physical, cognitive, social, and emotional challenges.
Key responsibilities
- Implement treatment plans: Work with a team of professionals to carry out individualized education and intervention plans.
- Assist with daily living: Help clients with personal care, household tasks, managing finances, and medication.
- Provide social and emotional support: Offer companionship, emotional support, and help with behavioral management.
- Facilitate community reintegration: Support clients in re-engaging with their community, such as returning to work or school.
- Assist a client attend a local Gym or Pool: To help carry-out a prescribed exercise routine as supervised by a; PT / Chiro / Family Doctor
- Teach life skills: Provide job training and instruction on life skills to increase independence.
- Monitor and track progress: Observe client progress, track changes, and report concerns to the rehabilitation team.
- Offer safety and structure: Help reduce risks and maintain a calm, structured environment.
- Use adaptive equipment: Instruct clients on the use of equipment that can help with their independence.
